Every coastline, mountain and cloud here is computed in your browser, from 22,000 km out down to a few metres above a ridge. Press Dive to fall all the way in, in one continuous shot.
The terrain is a cube-sphere with 20 levels of detail. Tiles are placed relative to the camera in 64-bit maths, so metre-scale rocks stay steady 6,360 km from the planet's centre.
The blue sky, the red sunset, the haze over far ridges and the glowing rim seen from space all come from one model of the air (Hillaire 2020). Clouds and mountains cast real shadows.
